ACC - Proposed Motorcycle Levy Increase

Thursday, 22 October 2009

Approximately 400 motorcyclists attended a BRONZ meeting in Auckland last night to discuss plans to campaign against the proposed increase in ACC levies. A brief summary of consensus & outcomes –
  1. The statistical data that ACC is using to justify the increase are fundamentally flawed.
  2. That it would be more equitable for ACC to recoup costs by a small increase in the price of petrol & that this would be totally in keeping with the ACC’s original visionary “No fault” philosophy.
  3. A peaceful protest ride to Wellington on 17 November is planned to coincide with the opening of the next parliamentary session. Keep an eye on the BRONZ Auckland site for more info - http://www.bronz.org.nz
  4. The Ulysses M/C Club Auckland is planning a protest gathering at the show grounds side of Cornwall Park on Saturday 31 October.  Check the Ulysses Auckland site for updates - http://www.ulyssesauckland.org.nz
  5. A reminder that you only have until 10 November to get your submission in to ACC on this matter.
  6. Motorcyclists are encouraged to join BRONZ or make a contribution to their fighting fund…or better still to volunteer to assist in any way possible with the campaigning against the proposes ACC hike.
  7. Motorcyclists are urged not simply to rely on protest rides as the sole means of protesting against the ACC fee hike. Far more good will be achieved by individual motorcyclists contacting & rationally protesting to, via phone, fax, email or better still in person, the ACC Minister, the Minister of Transport, their local MP and high profile motorcyclists like John Banks & Phil Goff
