RE: Michelin to Recall Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 Front Motorcycle Tires

The Michelin Pilot Power is original equipment for the Triumph Speed Triple 1050.

Speed Triple 1050 owners using machines with tires originally fitted by Triumph are not affected by the recall recently announced by Michelin (as outlined below). Michelin Pilot Power tires supplied to Triumph are sourced from Michelin’s Spanish Manufacturing Facilities.

Triumph, nonetheless, recommends all Speed Triple 1050 owners check their front tires. It is possible that replacement tires may have been fitted in service and that these replacements may be affected by the recall action.

Extract from Michelin Press Statement:

(Paris – June 15, 2007) – Michelin has launched a campaign to recall its Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 front motorcycle tires with “Made in France” markings. An examination of these tires showed a possible defect in the tread due to a manufacturing irregularity. No cases of pressure loss have been reported and no accidents have occurred.

Because customer safety is its primary concern, Michelin has decided as a precaution to replace the 120/70 ZR 17 Michelin Pilot Power 2CT and Michelin Pilot Power front tires, which can be identified by the following markings on the sidewall:

-          a “Made in France” label

-          DOT 6UCW 980T or DOT 6UCW 979T

-          Pilot Power: week numbers 2704 to 0406 inclusive

-          Pilot Power 2CT: week numbers 4505 to 1807 inclusive

These tires will no longer be sold by dealers.
